Priest's Motion For New Prosecutors Denied

By: A superior court judge recently denied a motion seeking to replace prosecutors in the pending trial of a priest who allegedly assaulted a newspaper photographer. Inactive Roman Catholic priest Don Kimball was charged earlier this year with assaulting news photographer Penni Gladstone, according to her paper, the San Francisco Chronicle.

Deputy Public Defender Michael Perry had asked that attorneys from another county try the case because staffers in the Sonoma County prosecutor's office testified at the preliminary hearing and may be called as witnesses at the October trial.

Kimball was charged with felony assault for allegedly shoving Gladstone's camera into her face in April during a lunch break from a trial in which the priest was convicted of molesting a 13-year-old girl. He was sentenced to seven years in prison.
