By: E&P Staff Prime UV Systems President Elinor Midlik has received the 2007 Harold W. Gegenheimer Award in recognition of 25 years of active service to the printing industry. Midlik was presented with the award earlier this month in San Diego at the annual conference of NPES, the Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies.

Midlik has long been an active member and leader of the NPES association, and an advocate for implementing environmentally sound technologies in the web printing industry. In 1988, she founded Prime UV Systems of Carol Stream, Ill., with a plan to eliminate volatile organic compounds and air pollution emissions in the printing, coating, and converting industries.

The company has worked to replace traditional drying methods with UV curing systems, a technique in use by the web printing industry, most recently by newspaper and book printers, according to the company.
