Proctor Named 'Richmond Times-Dispatch' Executive Editor

By: Joe Strupp Associate Editor Glenn Proctor of The Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J. has been named the new executive editor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the newpaper announced Thursday.

Proctor, who currently oversees training and recruitment at the Advance Publications daily, replaces former executive editor William H. Milsaps, who retired earlier this year.

Silvestri, Times-Dispatch president and publisher. ?Glenn?s passion for excellence in journalism, his firm but fair approach and his commitment to moving an organization forward put him ahead of a very spirited competition for the job.?

Proctor has served as assistant managing editor/local news for two years and city editor for one year at the Star-Ledger. He has also worked Gannett newspapers in Rochester, N.Y. at The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky.

Proctor spent 10 years at the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal as a reporter, weekend and night city editor. He was a member of the team that won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for the Goodyear takeover attempt and also has been a Pulitzer juror.

"I am honored to become part of the management team at The Times-Dispatch," Proctor said. "This newspaper has a long and deep history and I hope in the years ahead, we can add to that legacy."

At the Times-Dispatch, Proctor will lead a 220-person newsroom that includes 10 news bureaus throughout Virginia and in Washington, D.C. The newspaper has a daily circulation of 181,000, with and 222,000 on Sunday.
