By: E&P Staff WAN-IFRA's 9th International Newsroom Summit, April 21-22 in London, will tackle some of the biggest issues facing newspapers, including publishing on smartphones, paid content on digital media, multi-title newsrooms, social media and audience engagement, and building new print audiences.
Organized by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) and Newsplex, the event will bring together representatives from innovative newspaper companies worldwide to discuss building the next generation of newsrooms.
The event will be preceded by a one-day workshop on editorial management and reorganization and a guided tour of the Telegraph Media Group newsroom will precede the conference.
Speakers include Washington Post Managing Editor Raju Narisetti, who will participate in a discussion of paid online content; Andreas Wiele, Axel Springer board member and president of its Bild Group, Europe's largest newspaper publisher; Martim Figueiredo, publisher and editor of Portugal's recently launched "I," which redefines what newspapers are in the multimedia era; Adrian Jeakings, CEO of England's Archant Norfolk, and Marc Walder, Ringier publications director in Switzerland, will talk about publishing multiple titles and media from one newsroom; Die Zeit Managing Director Rainer Esser will consider his publication's increasing circulation in a very competitive German market; George Brock, professor and head of journalism at City University London, will discuss the "finger food" content needed for smartphone publishing; Gerd Kamp, head of Deutsche Presse Agentur's Newslab, will explore location-based service and geo-tagging; Grzegorz Piechota, Special Projects Editor for Poland's Agora Group, will present new techniques for investigative story-telling.
