By: E&P Staff Agfa-owned newspaper workflow and production tracking developer New ProImage, Or Akiva, Israel, and Princeton, N.J., announced that Gannett's Sioux Falls, S.D., Argus Leader, The Burlington (Vt.) Free Press, and Courier-Post, Cherry Hill, N.J., are joining six other Gannett papers in using NewsWay as their digital workflow solution to drive computer-to-plate output.
In Sioux Falls, NewsWay will provide workflow management, edition planning, production tracking, softViewing, annotation, automated event notification, furniture and text burning, and a plate editor. It also will import data from a Managing Editor ALS ad layout system to automatically create edition plans, while its Plate Wizard will allow users to quickly create custom eight-up impositions or other custom plate configurations. The system will manage output to Kodak CTP equipment.
The Free Press and Courier-Post are installing similar NewsWay Lite systems to manage workflow and produce two-up broadsheet and four-up tabloid impositions. In Burlington, NewsWay will generate soft proofs from a Harris front end before routing the pages to NewsColor software for calibrated newsprint proofing on HP printers. Imposed flats have text and furniture burned on output through two Creo (now Kodak) platesetters.
A ProImage ink-setting software customer since earlier this year, the Courier Post is implementing ProImage's bar code module, which will automate plate sortation by section code or product, burning onto the page image one of eight bar codes based on product and file name. Here, NewsWay Lite routes pages for output from a net-linx front end, load balancing four Harlequin RIPs embedded within NewsWay. After proofing, imposed flats (with automatically burned text and furniture) are output to two KPG (Kodak) CTP units. Ink values then are calculated and sent to a Goss press control for inksetting.
