By: E&P Staff New ProImage, Or Akiva, Israel, announced recent sales of its NewsWay browser-based automated production workflow solution to newspapers worldwide.

Now installing are the Houston Chronicle, The News-Star, Monroe, La., Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat & Chronicle, Tyler (Texas) Morning Telegraph, Opelika-Auburn (Ala.) News,; Naples (Fla.) Daily News, Toronto Sun, and The Gazette, Montreal. Elsewhere, The Deccan Chronicle, India, Sydsvenskan Tryck AB, Malmo, Sweden, and Le Groupe de La Provence, France, also chose NewsWay.

At Hearst's Houston Chronicle the flexible system will manage RIPing and page transmission to a remote print plant, automate imposition, burn barcodes onto plates for sorting, and interface to a Rockwell system for plate cylinder location data. It then drives four Agfa Polaris violet platesetters, according to Rick Shafranek, sales vice president at Princeton, N.J.-based ProImage America.

At E.W. Scripps' Naples Daily News, NewsWay will manage workflow from the front-end systems through to Agfa 3850 filmsetters, while at CanWest's Gazette, the software provides imposition, bitmap stitching of ads and editorial content" and management of transmission to a remote print plant, and control of two KPG thermal platesetters, Shafranek said in a statement.

NewsWay users may change workflows and priorities through simple drag-and-drop functionality, with jobs controlled from prepress through the press-management system from a browser at any location.
