By: E&P Staff On May 7, Portuguese group Sojormedia will launch a newspaper called 'i' using the Milenium cross-media publishing software suite from Madrid-based Protecmedia.
The publisher's goal is full integration of the print and Web versions from a converged newsroom.
Through Milenium, the paper will have certain simple workflows for the newsroom, production and advertising, with the aim of reducing costs and improving product quality.
Reflecting a commitment to mobile journalism, the plan is to give all journalists a multimedia kit that will enable them to capture images and record sound for reporting online and in print. An essential tool in that process will be the LSO 3G communications protocol that Protecmedia includes in its suite, allowing reporters to connect to the editorial system from anywhere as if they were in the newsroom.
The 70 journalists in various groups and sections are arranged to make information flow more easily among the newsroom's different components. There also are 16 TV screens that constantly update journalists with the latest news.
