'Providence Journal' Gets New Sports Editor

By: E&P Staff The Providence (R.I.) Journal has named a new sports editor: Michael C. McDermott, a six-year veteran of the paper.

Since joining the staff of the Journal in 2003 as a copy editor, McDermott has worked in both the sports and news departments. He most recently was assistant sports editor/web producer, where he helped build the local high school sports web pages for the Journal?s Web site, projo.com.

Prior to joining the Journal?s staff, the summa cum laude graduate of Northeastern University was at The Patriot Ledger (Quincy, Mass.), working as a town reporter, schools reporter and copy editor. He previously also served as editor of an English-language newspaper in Baku, Azerbaijan.
