By: E&P Staff Pulitzer Inc. reported today that overall revenue for November increased 3%. Advertising revenue in St. Louis and at the 12 Pulitzer newspapers grew 4.2% compared to the same period last year.
On a comparable basis, excluding the results of acquisitions, total revenue at the company was up 2.5% in November. Total advertising revenue increased 3.6%, with increases in St. Louis, up 1%, and at PNI, up 10.2%.
At PNI and St. Louis, on a comparable basis, retail ROP advertising fell 6.1% due to weakness in the department store, entertainment, and furniture categories. St. Louis experienced an 11.6% drop in retail ROP advertising.
For both PNI and St. Louis, national advertising revenue including preprints increased 16.7% because of strength in the financial, telecommunication, and automotive categories. Classified revenue grew 6.6%. Help wanted was up 10.9%. Automotive decreased 1.8%. And real estate jumped 7.6%.
CORRECTION: In an earlier version of this story, it was reported that on a comparable basis, retail ROP advertising at PNI fell 6.1%. That figure includes St. Louis.
