By: Staff reports Suburban Journals of Greater St. Louis Fetch $165 Million
Pulitzer Inc. has agreed to purchase the Suburban Journals of Greater
St. Louis from the Journal Register Co. for $165 million.
Pulitzer, which already owns the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, adds
the Suburban Journals - 38 weeklies, the Ladue News, and
several niche publications - to its Missouri-based holdings.
Pulitzer plans to keep the editorial voices independent of each other.
'Pulitzer strongly believes that maintaining the independence of the
two properties is in the best interests of the company and the
community,' said Robert C. Woodworth, Pulitzer president and CEO.
Pulitzer plans to achieve savings on real estate, newsprint, and other
purchasing-related costs. Woodward added that the current plan calls
for the number of jobs at both organizations to remain at the current
level.
