Pulitzer-Winning Columnist Connie Schultz to Announce Leave of Absence Thursday

By: E&P Staff Connie Schultz will announce in her column Thursday that she's taking a leave of absence while her husband, Rep. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), campaigns for a U.S. Senate seat.

Schultz, who won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, is with The Plain Dealer of Cleveland and syndicated by Newhouse News Service.

In a memo posted Wednesday on Jim Romenesko's media blog, Plain Dealer Reader Representative Ted Diadiun wrote that Schultz "will be on sabbatical through the end of the political campaign in order to avoid the inevitable charges of conflict of interest. ... The energy she brings to both the newsroom and the pages of The Plain Dealer will be sorely missed."
