QuadTech Reaches 100th Intallation on Manugraph Press in India

By: E&P Staff QuadTech, Sussex, Wis., and Manugraph DGM, Mumbai, India, marked the 100th installation of a QuadTech press control on a Manugraph press in India.

The 100th installation was a QuadTech Register Guidance System at Bennett Colman and Co. Ltd., which publishes The Times Of India, the country's largest newspaper, with a circulation of approximately 2.8 million. All installations on the 100 presses control almost 300 webs. Iin all, 140 systems operate on approximately 450 Manugraph towers - a figure that QuadTech said is likely to grow to 180 systems on approximately 600 towers.

QuadTech ha supplied the Times since to the 1970s, when it installed an Autotron 100 system on a gravure press. With plants being built all over India, the emphasis is now on better print quality using quicker, more cost-effective methods with lower waste. In the past six years, high-end color has become crucial to Indian newspapers and magazines.

The upsurge in India's newspaper market is partly a result of a policy change in 2002 and to growing advertising. Relaxed foreign media-ownership laws for newspapers in particular led to more overseas investment. With the boom came more supplements, travel and lifestyle magazines.
