By: E&P Staff Denver-based Quark Inc. has acquired the business and assets of A Lowly Apprentice Production Inc. (ALAP). Based in Carlsbad, Calif., 15-year-old ALAP provides XTensions to Quark products and plug-ins to Adobe Systems products for the publishing and graphic design industries.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. ALAP founder Paul Schmitt has joined Quark as product development vice president.
Quark interim President Linda Chase called ALAP imaging, impositioning, and productivity tools "a natural complement to QuarkXPress" that "put more useful features into the hands of our customers." ALAP imaging technology will work with QuarkVista in QuarkXPress and add "sophisticated compositing and Photoshop support to QuarkXPress," she said. Low-cost impositioning software also will be available, creating "a more complete portfolio for automated digital workflows."
