WHAT: Our lives are full of objects. Each one tells a story beyond its usefulness or sentimental value. The story behind the object itself — how it got to us, where it came from, its history — exposes the economic and technological forces that are shaping the way we live and work, from sweeping historic shifts to unintended quirks.
Based on Quartz’s popular email, the Obsession Podcast is a new, weekly podcast that invites users to dive deep into ideas crucial to understanding the future of business in an entirely new way. The 20-minute episodes will feature an introduction to the idea or object of focus and the journalist from Quartz’s global newsroom who has covered the idea or object, followed by a fun Q&A conversation between the host and journalist. Some topics of focus in the first season include CAPTCHA, rare earths, Japanese whisky, cash, and kudzu among others.
