By: E&P Staff Quipp Inc. has announced the consolidation of its recently acquired Newstec business, formerly of Walpole, Mass., with its Quipp Systems subsidiary at the latter's Miami location.
The post-press systems supplier sold two of its Packman packaging systems to the Orange County (Calif.) Register and another two to The Frederick (Md.) Post, which also bought three Model 501W Stackers and two Viper wrappers.
The Island Packet, Bluffton, S.C. ordered seven Model 500W stackers, the San Antonio (Texas) Express-News ordered nine 501Ws, and the San Francisco Chronicle ordered three 501Ws for its Union City plant. Other stacker orders came from: the Los Angeles Daily News, Valencia, Calif., and The Gazette, Colorado Springs, Colo. (two 501Ns each); Houma (La.) Courier, The Ottawa (Ontario) Sun, and La Crosse (Wis.) Tribune (one 501N each); Tribune Publishing Co., Mesa, Ariz., Osteen Pub. Co., Sumter, S.C., Dothan (Ala.) Eagle, Pocono Record, Stroudsburg, Pa., Daily Sentinel, Grand Junction, Colo., Santa Cruz (Calif.) Sentinel, and The Post and Courier, Charleston, S.C. (one 500W each); Union Leader, Manchester, N.H. (two 500Ws); News-Journal, Mansfield, Ohio, Citrus Publishing, Crystal River, Fla., Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald, and Times Argus, Barre, Vt. (one 500N each); Greater Jersey Press, East Brunswick, N.J. (501W); Toronto Star (501C, with bundle compression and stream squeeze roller).
Recent Quipp Viper orders were placed by the Quad-City Times, Davenport, Iowa; The State, Columbia, S.C. (with 20" Infeed extension); The Columbian, Vancouver, Wash.; The Frederick (Md.) News-Post; Standard Times Co., Fairhaven, Mass.; La Voz del Interior, Cordoba, Argentina (with high-resolution ink jet system); Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller-Times, (with ink jet); Ferag Americas, Lawrenceville, N.J. (eight Viper three-quarter wrappers with ink jet printing); Island Packet, Bluffton, S.C. (3 Vipers with powered side walls and ink jet systems) Lansing (Mich.) State Journal (ink jet system for an existing Viper).
Quipp also sold equipment to three Mexican newspapers. El Imparcial will install a Twin-Trak belt conveyor system in its facility in Hermosillo, along with two Model 500 stackers, two Viper wrappers and two strappers. El Sol, in Monterrey, bought two Model 500W stackers. Mexico City's La Reforma ordered two 500Ws.
Other Recent orders came from The Lawton (Okla.) Constitution (Model 500 stacker to replace aging equipment and Twin-Track belt conveyor to cross an alley via enclosed bridge from the press hall to the mailroom); The Daily World, Aberdeen, Wash. (Twin-Trak); The Times-Georgian, Carrollton, Ga. (one Quipp off-press counter stacker).
