Quipp Sales: From Star and Sun to Kiwis and Kits

Posted
By: E&P Staff Miami-based Quipp Systems Inc. reports orders from two Gannett dailies and a New Zealand publisher.

Now using four Quipp Model 401 narrow stackers and three Viper bottomwrappers, the Rockford (Ill.) Register Star will install three Model 501 narrow stackers, two Viper bottomwrappers, two Rollerslat conveyors with pacers, two Incline matte-top conveyors with powered gates, one powered deflector, and two waste conveyors with a steel chute.

For the new KBA press going into its expanded production facility, the Register Star needed to add two tie lines and modify existing bundle-distribution conveyors. Each tie line will consist of a Quipp 501 narrow stacker, Viper bottomwrapper, Rollerslat conveyor with pacer, strappers, and an inclined matte-top conveyor with a powered gate.

These lines will accept either ROP or inserted product, which then will be directed to one of six powered truckloaders.

The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, Calif., ordered Twin-Trak belt conveyor systems, stacker and bottomwrapper equipment, a bundle-distribution system, and controls, to be installed this fall. The Twin-Trak will replace existing Idab belt conveyors.

Last month, after visiting Quipp's plant and its U.S. customers running similar applications, a team from Horton Media in Auckland, New Zealand, ordered Twin-Trak belt conveyor systems and a waste conveyor system. One belt conveyor will connect to an existing press and the other from a new press to existing stackers. The equipment will be installed this fall.

Quipp also announced the first newspaper to install its pusher spacer kit. The Washington Times used the kits on its Quipp stackers to run different newspaper sizes in its daily operation. The kits include one set of six pusher blades to be permanently mounted on the rotating turntable walls. A set of two mount fittings on each pusher blade then permit quick installation of the six sets of spacers correctly sized for the product to be stacked. All new Model 500 Stackers come with the feature.
