By: E&P Staff Miami-based Quipp Systems received an order from the Orlando Sentinel for four Quipp Packman packaging systems, which will be installed in the next few months.
Packman stacks, wraps, prints and straps in one operation. It addresses the bundle-quality challenge with Sunday inserted products by containing a bundle through the entire process, also resulting in labor savings.
Quipp Model 500C stackers have two major enhancements.
Bundle compression squeezes out excess air for a more compact bundle, and the Stream Squeeze Roller gives a tighter fold for improved bundle quality. The Courier & Press, Evansville, Ind., has ordered a 501C.

(501N); Beaumont (Texas) Enterprise, Beaumont (500W); The Hamilton (Ontario) Spectator (501N); Lancaster (Pa.) Newspapers (500W); Missoulian, Missoula, Montana (500N); Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) Journal (501W); The Hickory (N.C.) Daily Record (500W); Daily Reflector, Greenville, N.C. (two 501Ns); Ontario (Calif.) Daily Bulletin (three 501Ns); Denver Newspaper Agency (three 500Ns); The Daily Graphic, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba (off-press counter stacker); Herald-Courier, Bristol, Va. (two 500Ns).
For its new plant, the Herald-Courier also bought two Viper wrappers. The Dow Jones & Co. West Middlesex, Pa., plant and Metrowest Daily/The Middlesex News, Framingham, Mass., will each install a Viper. Six Vipers with 30-inch powered side walls were orderd by Ferag Americas, Lawrenceville, N.J.
Quipp offers two ways to mount a newspaper labeler at its stacker infeed: as a freestanding conveyor section and as an extension attached to the infeed. Labelers identify individual products passing into the stackers, assuring Zip code and drop separation, when programmed. The Orange County (Calif.) Register ordered two labeler conveyors.
Floor conveyors will go into Newspaper Agency Corp., Salt Lake City and the Dow Jones plant in West Middlesex, Pa.
