By: Dave Astor Denver radio host Peter Boyles yesterday called for a May 18 boycott of the city's two major dailies for immigration-related reasons, according to a Denver Post story. Today, he retracted that call.
"Peter and I had a good talk yesterday about whether a boycott was an appropriate response to differences of opinion that are going to occur," said John Temple, president, publisher, and editor of the Rocky Mountain News, when reached today by E&P.
Boyles -- described by the Post as someone "who's lately made it his life's work to keep our borders safe from illegal immigrants" -- was reportedly mad at the two papers for several reasons.
"What set him off," said Dick Kreck's Post story, "was an article in Friday's Rocky Mountain News about a man whose nephew was killed in a traffic accident with an illegal immigrant and linking the uncle to the Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform, a group Boyles is working with. ... He's also at odds with Post columnists Cindy Rodriguez and Diane Carman, both of whom are on the opposite side of the fence, as it were, from Boyles on the illegal-immigration issue. "
Post Editor Gregory Moore, who is out of town until Monday, could not be reached for comment today by E&P.
Boyles works for KHOW 630-AM in Denver.
