By: Joe Strupp The Reading (Pa.) Eagle found itself in somewhat of an embarrassing situation when it ran a story today about a local massage parlor that turned out to be a front for prostitution.
It also turned out to be a Reading Eagle advertiser.
The news story revealed that Lotus Blossom Spa was found to be selling sex for money, employing at least two illegal immigrants.
Readers who read further through the paper found an ad for the same massage parlor, offering a $50 special. Eagle Sales Representative Dene Bonte said the business was a "fairly new" client. But its ties to the paper ended quickly after the raid occurred.
"I just killed it," she said of the ad when contacted Thursday morning. "I can't say any more about it."
Ad department executives did not return calls seeking comment. Editor Harry J. Deitz said he did not know about the ad until after the story ran: "That is not something I am involved in. I have no part in ads."
