By: E&P Staff The Raleigh-Durham (N.C.) Airport Authority must pay $195,000 in legal fees and cost to the hometown daily The News & Observer and three other newspaper companies that successful overturned the airport's newsrack ban, the N&O reported Friday.

Last November, a federal judge ruled that the airport authority violated the First Amendment with its ban on newspaper vending boxes. He ruled in a suit brought by the N&O, The Durham Herald Co., The New York Times Co., and Gannett Co. The airport had argued travelers had sufficient access to newspapers at its newsstands and bookstores.

The authority has filed a notice appeal to the U.S. U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, N&O staff writer Bruce Siceloff reported Friday.
