Reich and Wrong: Will Smith Says Paper Twisted His 'Hitler' Remark

Posted
By: Will Smith's Christmas has a side dish of controversy this year. The actor is angry about the way some celebrity gossip Web sites have reported comments he made in a Scottish newspaper about Adolf Hitler.

The story was published this past Saturday in the Daily Record. In it, Smith is quoted as saying -- and this is the direct quote here: "Even Hitler didn't wake up going, 'let me do the most evil thing I can do today.' I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was 'good."'

Since then, dozens of celebrity gossip Web sites have posted articles about the comment, implying that Smith believes Hitler was a "good person."

But in his statement, Smith said that characterization of him is "an awful and disgusting lie." In his statement he says: "Adolf Hitler was a vile, heinous vicious killer responsible for one of the greatest acts of evil committed on this planet."
