Replacing Folded 'Southern Voice,' Gay Paper is Hiring Ahead of March Launch

By: Mark Fitzgerald GA Voice, the gay-oriented newspaper intended to replace the folded Southern Voice, is advertising for a salesperson and intends to launch in March, its founders say on their Web site, SaveSoVo.com.

The hiring plans come as the start-up paper has received cash infusions from a $12,000 matching from a foundation and December fundraiser.

GA Voice is being launched by Chris Cash, who founded Southern Voice in 1988 and sold it in 1997, and former editor Laura Douglas-Brown.

Southern Voice's parent company, Window Media, suddenly shuttered Atlanta-based SoVo, the Washington Blade and the rest of its gay-oriented newspapers and niche publications on Nov. 13, and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation.
