REPORT: BIG LAYOFFS EXPECTED AT CNN

By: Staff Reports New-Media Groups May Face Deep Cuts


CNN is expected to announce significant layoffs, cutting as many
as 1,000 positions, according to a report in today's Wall
Street Journal. Many of those cuts are expected in the
network's interactive group, which employs about 750 people.

The Journal attributed the story to "industry executives,"
and a CNN spokesperson would not comment. CNN employs 4,000
worldwide.

A company-wide memo distributed last month warned staffers to
expect "aggressive" changes in the new year.
