By: E&P Staff Some 50 top executives of The New York Times, including Publisher and Times Co. Chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. met earlier this week in a New York restaurant with Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who demonstrated the iPad and talked it up as "the future of media," according to a report by Daniel Maurer on New York magazine's Web site.
The unpublicized meeting in the cellar dining room at Pranna restaurant was an "intimate, family-style gathering," according to New York's unnamed source, who said Jobs told the Times group that he reads the paper online every day, but reads the Sunday Times in print.
The Times was a big part of the demonstration at iPad's launch, but the paper does not have an exclusive contract with the tablet. The paper has said it will begin charging for online content using a meter system in 2011.
