Retired Newspaper Publisher Jon Starn Dies at 71

Jon Starn, whose newspaper career included being a publisher at the Daily American of Somerset and at The Meadville Tribune, died Saturday. He was 71.

Starn began his career in Meadville as an advertising salesman and worked for the Tribune for 21 years, eventually being promoted to publisher. He then arrived at the Daily American in 1994 and was quickly appointed general manager. Schurz Communications promoted him to publisher when it purchased the newspaper in 1997.

The Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home in Somerset said friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The burial will be private.
