By: E&P Staff Reuters today is starting its move from the office it occupied on London's Fleet Street since 1939.
The 1851-founded company is relocating its global headquarters to Canary Wharf in London, where 2,500 people will be consolidated in the 10-story, 280,000-square-foot Reuters Building. Currently, Reuters' London staffers work in six locations across the city.
There are no individual offices for anyone (including the CEO) in the new, open-plan, high-tech building -- which features a 340-seat newsroom, a 200-seat auditorium, an on-site Starbucks, and more.
The square next to the new headquarters has been renamed Reuters Plaza, and features a giant outdoor LED screen displaying real-time news and pictures.
Reuters -- which has 14,500 staffers in 91 countries -- plans to complete the London move by the end of August. To mark the relocation, it will hold an exhibit of award-winning Reuters photos throughout Canary Wharf from June to September.
