Rexburg 'Standard Journal' Cuts Back on Publishing Days

Posted
By: Executives at the Standard Journal say they will publish the newspaper three days a week instead of five in response to higher production costs and the dismal economy.

The Rexburg newspaper will begin printing only on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday starting March 3, down from its current Tuesday through Saturday publishing schedule. The newspaper also plans to publish a special Thanksgiving Day edition.

Publisher Tod Young says the cost-cutting measure was necessary to offset rising production costs and the difficult economic realities.

The newspaper will still operate on a daily news cycle, with editors posting updates to the newspaper's web site. For now, editors say they do not anticipate lay-offs in the newsroom.

The Standard Journal began publishing in 1888 and has a circulation of about 5,300.
