RFD News Group, a group of four community newspapers in eastern South Dakota has been purchased by Ken Reiste of the Clear Lake Courier in Clear Lake, South Dakota.
RFD News Group includes the Volga Tribune, Volga, the Elkton Record, Elkton; Tri-County Star, White (also covering the towns of Toronto and Astoria) and the Arlington Sun, Arlington, all located in South Dakota. The papers have been owned and operated by Linda Schumacher since 2012 when her husband, Chris Schumacher, passed away. Linda also works full time at South Dakota State University in Brookings.
Julie Bergman of WB Grimes and Company represented the Linda Schumacher and RFD News Group in the sale.
“I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and especially my four grandchildren and to read books that are collecting dust,” Linda said. “A big thank you to the RFD News Group staff, who without their great work and dedication, the papers would not be where they are today.”
All four newspapers were established in the late 1880s and have been an integral part of their communities.
“I was impressed by the people who staff the four papers and the communities,” Reiste said. “They are doing a very good job and I look forward to working with them and become acquainted with the people of the communities.
“We will strive to keep the newspapers as the source of local news and information as they have for well over 130 years,” Reiste continued.
