'Richfield Reaper' Appoints New Publisher

By: E&P Staff The weekly Richfield (Utah) Reaper has appointed Charles G. Hawley its new publisher. The announcement was made last week by William Brehm Jr., president of Brehm Communications, which has owned the Reaper since 1990.

"Chuck has been a valuable part of The Reaper team for 30 years," Brehm told the weekly Emery County Progress, another Brehm paper. "His being named publisher is a natural transition for the newspaper and the communities it serves."

The 54-year-old Hawley, a native of Richfield, has served as interim publisher since the death of Mark Fullenbach in April. Hawley's appointment marks the first time since 1934 that the publisher of the Reaper has not been a member of the Fullenbach family. The family acquired the paper in 1934. Mark Fullenbach sold the paper to Brehm Communications in 1990, but retained the title of publisher.

Hawley began his career at the Reaper as an advertising salesman, eventually becoming advertising manager, then general manager.

"It's an honor to be selected," Hawley told the Progress. "Being the first publisher of The Reaper since 1934 who is not a member of the Fuellenbach family is humbling."
