The Riverdale Press, Bronx, N.Y., has promoted Associate Editor Kate Pastor, 31, to editor.

After growing up reading the Press, Pastor joined its newsroom in 2008, first as a general-assignment reporter, then moving to education reporter, political reporter and associate editor. But before choosing journalism as a profession, she studied economic development in Uganda and worked in the public-health field with non-governmental organizations.

While at City University of New York's Graduate School of Journalism, Pastor studied under Bernard L. Stein, Pulitzer Prize-winning former editor and co-publisher of Tthe Press. While at CUNY she interned at AM New York and City Limits, where she later worked as a freelancer.

Pastor, who won a Suburban Newspaper Association award for her coverage of last year's bitter strike at the Stella D'oro bakery, plans to offer more features at www.riverdalepress.com and add a level of interactivity to the site.
