'Roanoke Times' Names Carole Tarrant Editor

By: E&P Staff Roanoke Times Managing Editor Carole Tarrant has been promoted to the position of editor at the newspaper.

An article in the paper reports that Roanoke Times Publisher Debbie Meade said the choice of Tarrant was based on her "innovation and ability to reach new audiences in the digital age."

"Her news judgment is impeccable; she respects her colleagues and our craft, and she makes excellent decisions in consultation with those around her. She has a bold vision for the newsroom and is prepared to lead the way to the future," Meade is quoted as saying.

Tarrant has been at the newspaper since signing on in 2005 as managing editor. She had previously been a managing editor at The Forum of Fargo, N.D.

"I have been honored to lead this enterprising newsroom, and in this new role as editor, I am looking forward to interacting more with our community and cultivating dialogue to better understand and connect with the issues affecting our region," Tarrant is quoted as sayign in the article.

The newspaper's previous editor, Mike Riley, left in February to take a position as the editor and senior vice president at Congressional Quarterly.
