By: E&P Staff Outgoing Association of American Editorial Cartoonists President Rob Rogers has posted his final presidential letter on the AAEC's EditorialCartoonists.com site.
"As my presidency comes to an end, I have one thing to say: The SURGE is working!," quipped the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette/United Media editorial cartoonist, quickly adding: "By 'surge' I mean that we had a good bump in AAEC membership this past year. Forty new members at last count." A number of those new AAECers are alternative cartoonists.
Rogers also discussed the state of editorial cartooning, outlined what the AAEC plans to do help the survival of the profession, listed highlights of the organization's 50th-anniversary convention this past July, thanked people who worked on putting the meeting together, offered a tribute to his late sister, and more.
Succeeding Rogers at the AAEC helm will be President-elect Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle and Washington Post Writers Group. Other new officers are expected to be announced soon, after the tally of member votes is completed.
