Robert A. Fusco Sr., Former Reporter an Editor, Dies at 83

By: E&P Staff Robert A. Fusco Sr., a former reporter and editor at numerous newspapers, died at home Friday at the age of 83.

Fusco worked at the Troy (N.Y.) Record Newspapers as a sports editor and later as a political writer and columnist. He also wrote for the New York Times, several financial newspapers in New York City and the U.S. Information Agency for foreign publications in the Near East, India, and South America.

In Troy, Fusco helped organize the Northeastern New York Sportswriters Association and was the group's first president. He was also a charter member and president of the U.S. Harness Writers Association's Chapter One.

For his participation in the Battle of Central Europe and Battle of the Rhine in World War II, Fusco was awarded bronze battle stars. He also earned the Philippines Liberation Ribbon. Fusco was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army infantry, the engineers, and the Army Specialized Training Program.

Fusco was born in 1922 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and attended Ohio State University before and upon returning from the war. He is survived by Elizabeth Ford Fusco, his wife of 57 years, three daughters, and four sons. Funeral services will be held Tuesday
