By: E&P Staff The Robesonian, Lumberton, N.C., reported today that Darryl L. Flowers has joined the newspaper as production director, in charge of prepress, printing and the mailroom. He brings 35 years of newspaper experience to the newspaper.

The paper quoted its publisher, Lynn McLamb, as saying, "We believe consolidating all the aspects of production under the leadership of a single person will enhance quality and make us more efficient."

Flowers learned newspaper production from his father, who served as production director of The Jackson (Tenn.) Sun, where, according to the Robesonian, his mother, sister, uncle and two nephews also worked.

Most recently in New York, Flowers has handled newspaper and commercial printing production around the country, including several plants in North Carolina. The Robesonian reported that Flowers has been a supervisor for USA Today, plant manager for La Nacion USA, the largest Hispanic daily in Washington, D.C., and operations director for Epoch Times. Flowers also founded and ran insert printer Pilot Graphics Corp., Mt. Airy, N.C.

"It's great to be back in North Carolina," Flowers told the Robesonian, adding he liked "the location and the size" of the 12,426-circulation (14,935 Sunday) Robeson County daily and looked forward to working with head pressman Mike Skipper and helping the paper "improve its production" on its recently acquired Goss Community, a press on which Flowers first worked 1983.
