Robinson and Walker to Be Comic-Con Guests

Posted Thursday, June 15, 2006 12:00 am

By: E&P Staff Several people from the world of newspaper syndication are slated to be among the "special guests" at the July 20-23 Comic-Con in San Diego.

One is Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate executive Jerry Robinson, who's also an author of books about cartooning, a former newspaper cartoonist, and a former comic-book cartoonist who created the Joker and named the Robin character in "Batman."

Another is Brian Walker, whose credits include writing the "Hi and Lois" comic strip for King Features Syndicate and authoring a number of books about cartooning.

More than 104,000 people attended last year's Comic-Con -- an annual event that focuses more on comic-book cartooning than newspaper cartooning.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
