Rochester Paper, WashingtonPost.com Reach Most Adults

By: Jennifer Saba The Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle reaches the most people in its DMA with its print and online properties. Eighty-one percent of adults in Rochester read the print version or visited the Web site (or did both) on a weekly basis, according to the latest data from Scarborough Research.

Washingtonpost.com is the newspaper Web site with the greatest local penetration reaching almost one-quarter of adults in that DMA during the week.

Scarborough released today its newspaper penetration report which ranks newspapers' print, online, and integrated audience in 81 U.S. markets.

"The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle has a long tradition of service to its community, and adults in Rochester rely on it for news and information," Gary Meo, senior vice president, print and Internet services at Scarborough, said in a statement. "Washingtonpost.com is considered one of the industry's premier newspaper websites and is clearly a much valued resource among D.C. adults."

Gannett's Wisconsin Newspapers, the Des Moines (Iowa) Register, the Richmond (Va.) Times-Dispatch, and The Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y., topped Scarborough's integrated newspaper audience list after Rochester.

The Web sites of the Austin American-Statesman reaches 19% of adults in the Austin DMA, while the web sites of The Cincinnati Enquirer, The San Diego Union-Tribune, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution each reach 18% of their respective markets.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle also can claim it reaches the most adults in its DMA on a weekly basis with its print edition.
