By: E&P Staff The New York Times announced that Roland A. Caputo, vice president of circulation fulfillment services, has been promoted to vice president and CFO, effective Jan. 1. He replaces Liam J. Carlos, who has been named controller for the newspaper.
"We are pleased to honor [Carlos'] request to take on a new assignment that keeps him near the thick of things but allows him to focus on those financial matters he enjoys most," Scott Heekin-Canedy, president of the Times, said in a statement.
"Roland has been instrumental in helping us find efficiencies across the business side and has led our national expansion efforts, including overseeing our home delivery operations nationwide and retail transportation and distribution outside the New York metropolitan area," Heekin-Canedy said.
Caputo, 45, was named vice president of circulation fulfillment services in 2001 after having served as the vice president of circulation business development since 2000. Previously, he was president of the Times' City & Suburban Delivery Systems; group director and plant manager of the Times' Edison plant; and assistant to the vice president of production.
Carlos, 53, was named vice president and CFO of the Times in 2000 after having served as assistant controller of the financial department since 1999. From 1995 to 1999, he was the financial director of the paper's advertising department. He joined the Times in 1980 and held a series of positions in the financial department.
