Roy Gutman Leaves 'Newsday' to Be Foreign Editor at McClatchy

By: E&P Staff Newsday's Pulitzer-prize winning foreign correspondent and editor Roy Gutman has been named foreign editor at McClatchy, and will join the newspaper chain's Washington bureau next month.

Gutman, who has worked for UPI, Reuters, and Newsweek in the past, has been Newsday's foreign editor in New York since 2004. He was described in a McClatchy release as "a savvy and talented journalist who has a palpable zest for the story" and "a courageous truth-seeker." He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1993 for his coverage of the war in Bosnia, and authored several books including "A Witness to Genocide," about his time in the Balkans, and "Banana Diplomacy" about U.S. Nicaragua policy during the Reagan era. He will also soon publish a book about the rise of Osama bin Laden.
