By: E&P Staff Shaw Newspapers appointed John Rung, 42, group publisher of the Shaw Suburban Media Group (SSMG). Most recently Rung was publisher of the Northwest Herald, a daily newspaper in Crystal Lake, Ill.
Rung will oversee the operation of the group's two dailies -- the Herald and the Kane County Chronicle in Geneva, Ill. -- as well as the group's weeklies, a monthly business journal, and affiliated Web sites.
"John has demonstrated exceptional leadership and achievement with every responsibility he has shouldered for the company," said Tom Shaw, CEO of Shaw Newspapers, in a statement. "His appointment is an important step in our strategic reorganization and emphasis on the company's growth."
In addition to the new appointment, Shaw outlined his new strategy for the group. "A key part of our growth plan is to create an intensely collaborative environment," Shaw said in the statement. "It's absolutely vital that SSMG operates as one company."
