Publisher Cheryl Dell has named Ryan J. Mote vice president of advertising at The Sacramento Bee.
In his new role, Mote will oversee the advertising division, which is responsible for both print and digital sales and strategic planning.
Prior to joining The Bee, Mote was the director of local advertising sales at Republic Media/Gannett, where he was responsible for all advertising sales efforts in print and digital for small to medium-sized businesses. He was named Gannett Sales Executive of the Year in 2011 and led a department of six managers and 35 sales professionals. Republic Media/Gannett is based in Phoenix, Ariz., and responsible for advertising sales at The Arizona Republic, azcentral.com and 12News.
“I am thrilled to have someone with Ryan’s track record of success joining The Bee. He understands that marketing and advertising programs are changing – both for local businesses and for newspaper companies,” said Dell, in announcing Mote’s appointment.
For his part, Mote says he’s excited to be joining The Sacramento Bee and returning to Northern California. The Southern California native graduated with a B.A. in communications from Sonoma State University and worked as an advertising sales executive at The Press Democrat in Santa Rosa before moving to Arizona. He described The Bee as a “world-class product” that is on the forefront of market.
But, he says, it’s not just a newspaper company anymore. The Bee is a well-rounded media company, reaching 5 million people every month in print and online. “It is also the market leader in sales and advertising – a company I’m excited to be joining,” he said.
