By: E&P Staff Stuart Leavenworth has been named editorial page editor of The Sacramento Bee.

Leavenworth's promotion was announced Friday by Bee Publisher Cheryl Dell and Editor Melanie Sill. Leavenworth succeeds David Holwerk, who left the paper in June to become director of communications for the non-profit Charles Kettering Foundation in Dayton, Ohio.

In appointing Leavenworth to the position after a nationwide search, Dell cited his ability to "frame issues to help readers come to their own conclusions about the challenges facing our region," according to the Bee.

Leavenworth, a Fresno native, has been at the Bee since 1999, and has been a member of the paper's editorial board for five years. He has been on sabbatical for the last five months, and has been working as a chef's apprentice in an Oakland restaurant. He'll begin his work as editorial page editor in late September.
