The Sacramento Bee has launched an Internet service, AccessBee.com. The ISP is run by
Wavve Telecommunications Inc., also of Sacramento.

The service includes dial-up connectivity, e-mail, personal Web pages, and technical
support for subscribers and newspaper employees.

'Providing Internet services is a natural next step toward our commitment to delivering
local news to our subscribers in a timely and convenient manner over the Internet,' said
Ed Canale, director of strategic planning and new media at the newspaper, in a statement.
He said the service would drive print subscriptions and increase retention of customers.

If the new AccessBee.com program proves to be successful, other McClatchy-owned papers may
launch similar programs, Canale said.

The service costs $12.95 a month with no start-up fees or no long-term commitment. The Bee
also provides on-site service to assist new users in getting connected.
