By: E&P Staff Since Sunday, controversy has surrounded an angry email sent to Glenn Greenwald, a leading blogger for Salon.com, purportedly by Steven Boylan, press spokesman for Gen. David Petraeus in Baghdad. Boylan denied sending it in an email to Greg Mitchell, editor of E&P.
Greenwald is not convinced of that, and mainstream commentators such as Howard Kurtz and Dan Froomkin at The Washington Post have since taken note. Greenwald has charged that either Boylan is lying about sending the email or the military has suffered a serious security breach.
Now a reporter for Salon, Farhad Manjoo, has probed the evidence, including seeking out computer experts. (Boylan did not respond to a request for comment.)
That report is
here.
Mitchell's column on the subject is still posted on the E&P home page, and Greenwald continues to blog about the controversy at Salon.
