SALT LAKE TRIBUNE STILL BEING FOUGHT OVER

The management company that runs and once owned The Salt Lake
Tribune has dropped four antitrust violations from a lawsuit
against the paper's present owner, Denver-based MediaNews Group
Inc.

The management company still seeks 12 claims on contractual
issues, despite earlier objections by AT&T, which sold the paper
to MediaNews, but is embroiled in the lawsuit. MediaNews bought
the Tribune from AT&T in December for about $200 million.

While the management company, controlled by the McCarthy family,
does not own the Tribune, MediaNews will have to sell it
back by July 2002, contends Tribune General Manager Randy
Frisch.

MediaNews Group's William Dean Singleton "has to sell the paper
back to us," Frisch said. "We have an option to buy it in 400
days."
