By: E&P Staff Maureen Saltzer has been named president and publisher of The Tribune in San Luis Obispo, Calif., effective June 14. She succeeds Par Ridder, who was appointed publisher of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Previously, she was vice president of the Pacific Region for Freedom Community Newspapers.
"It is a real pleasure to be able to announce that we have someone with Maureen's depth of experience and track record of success to be the next publisher of The Tribune," said Mac Tully, vice president, operations for Knight Ridder, in a statement. "The newspaper has been on a successful track of strong circulation growth and journalistic excellence, with good revenue and profit improvement. Maureen inherits a strong team in a great market and I have no doubt that she will guide the paper to continued excellent improvement."
Before becoming vice president for Freedom Community Newspapers, Saltzer was president of Freedom Eastern North Carolina Communications, publisher of Freedom's Fort Pierce (Fla.) Tribune/Port St. Lucie Tribune, Victorville, Calif., Daily Press and Desert Dispatch and general manager of The Valley Times.
