By: E&P Staff The publisher of the weekly San Clemente Times in California purchased The Capistrano Dispatch from Jonathan Volzke. The Dispatch, currently a bi-weekly, will go through a redesign and will move to a weekly frequency starting in June.

Volzke will remain editor of the Dispatch. He will also serving as a partner and senior editorial advisor to the company.

?This addition will allow us to continue to grow our unique local media platform in south Orange County,? Norb Garrett, CEO and owner of the SC Times, said in a statement. ?With our mantra and tagline of ?Local News You Can Use,? we?ve set out to redefine the role of community, local media, and how it is packaged and presented. We feel that the addition of Jonathan and the Dispatch is a win-win for both businesses as we look to continue our growth.?

The transaction builds upon the advertising network the two papers created last June. The combined circulation of the two papers is 30,000 -- 20,000 for the SC Times and 10,000 for the Dispatch.

?I?m thrilled to join forces with Norb as we both believe that the future of local media belongs in the hands of dedicated, local independent publishers,? said Volzke in a statement. Volzke spent 13 years as a reporter for The Orange County (Calf.) Register.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
