By: E&P Staff The San Francisco Chronicle Division of Hearst Communications has leased its 7.9-acre Chavez Street production plant to Webcor, a large construction firm, according to Chronicle Marketing Director Michael Keith. The value of the five-year lease was not disclosed.
Webcor will use all 345,000 square feet at the facility for storage and subcontractor parking during construction of a nearby hospital, according to the San Francisco Business Times. Quoting a source who facilitated the lease, it called the site one of the city's largest contiguous properties, and the lease one of the city's biggest industrial deals in years.
The plant was shut down a few weeks ago, when Transcontinental took over printing the newspaper at its new plant in Fremont.
