Posted
By: E&P Staff The San Mateo (Calif.) County Times announced that Teresa Mills-Faraudo, the education reporter for the paper, and Allison Louie, a former intern, have been honored with a John Swett Award from the California Teachers Association for their series on the cost of education.

The John Swett Award is the highest honor that the CTA bestows upon journalists in recognition of outstanding coverage of educational issues in kindergarten through 12th-grade schools, community colleges, and state universities.

The Times ran the award-winning two-part series by Mills-Faraudo and Louie last year, which investigated local schools? funding inequities, and how these inequities impacted students and teachers. Another facet of the series was the high costs of higher education.

Mills-Faraudo has worked at the Times as a reporter for the past seven years. Louie was a Times intern during the summer of 2006.

The awards were presented to Mills-Faraudo and Louie during a ceremony on June 8 in Los Angeles.
