By: E&P Staff The Tribune in San Luis Obispo acknowledged in a correction this week that it had been "gently rebuke(d)" by Santa Claus over a headline that suggested children's letters to Santa don't reach the North Pole.
The Dec. 20 headline over the story by Leslie Griffy said, "Sorry, kids/ Santa gets help with letters to North Pole." The deck read: "On SLO County's North Coast, they're entrusted to Cathy Wilson, who's been given special permission to read them."
"I saw the newspaper's headline this morning at
sanluisobispo.com, and found it misleading," the Tribune quoted Kris Kringle as saying in "an exclusive" telephone interview.
"All those letters do make it to the North Pole, but they stop first at the local post office so my assistants can organize them by street address and ZIP code," Santa added. "But children should have no fear -- I know what they are thinking. I've got my list, and I'm checking it twice."
Santa warned that the paper had been moved to "my naughty list."
The correction concluded: "Top Tribune officials could not be reached for comment before deadline. They were in a corner taking a timeout for their bad behavior and not allowed to talk.
