Santa Rosa is Site of 55 Charlie Brown Statues

Posted
By: E&P Staff Fifty-five Charlie Brown statues painted by local artists are on display throughout Santa Rosa, Calif., until Sept. 25.

The sculptures mark this year's 55th anniversary of "Peanuts," the comic by longtime Santa Rosa resident Charles M. Schulz (1922-2000). The community display is modeled after the "Peanuts on Parade" program in Schulz's hometown of St. Paul, Minn.

Meanwhile, at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, an exhibit of 70 original "Peanuts" strips featuring Snoopy are on display through Sept. 12. The comics show the cartoon canine in various personas -- including Joe Cool, the flying ace, and the literary ace (perched on top of his doghouse with a typewriter).

"Peanuts" reruns continue to be syndicated by United Media.
